I've been working doing work with the International Carwash Association for over a decade now. As the 2020 pandemic hit, the ICA sought to bring back large crowds for their annual trade show convention. Part of that effort was to make daily recaps and other convention videos of the happenings and images from the convention.
I've been the primary video editor for each of these conventions since 2021. Each video is edited on the day of release and posted around dinner each day. Interviewees are often paid sponsors of the event, so getting them adequate screen time is a priority, while also keeping the video brief enough to attract viewers. Some interviews are not filmed until after lunch, so getting them down to small enough bytes to fit is tricky. I'm fortunate that my time working in network television helped with this as I was often editing for Day-of-Air videos and packages with very little turn around.
Having a good videography team that I've worked with many times before on other ICA projects has helped in that we know the types of images and sound bytes we're looking for to showcase the show and ICA organization. Putting fun visual flares and musical beats into the video is something I love to try and do at times when I'm waiting on the interview footage to come in.
